We started claases for my 4 and 7 year old boys over the summer, when there was very little going on. But they were instantly hooked. And I love the positive messages that they get each week as they work toward courage, responsibility and optimism. It's been really wonderful for them (and me)!

Joining last year has been a truly rewarding experience for me. The program is tailor made for beginners like me who have absolutely no experience with any combat sports or mixed martial arts. A big shout out to the Senseis who are great coaches and always motivates you to do your best. The warm up exercises, drills, and especially the Randori (sparring) sessions make for a challenging yet great learning experience. FUJI Martial Arts has my highest recommendation if you want to hone you Judo skills or want to start off as a beginner.

I have been here since May, after moving to the North Shore. This place is amazing! I came from another school after 3 months in gi and 7 months no gi. Within three classes I noticed a huge difference in my BJJ game. 5 months later I still can't get over what I have learned. The instruction is amazing, the guys I roll with challenge you and assist you in growing in your confidence and abilities, and the group genuinely enjoy one another. Can't say enough good things!

DOES YOUR 2-4 YEAR OLD STRUGGLE WITH SELF-CONTROL?

OUR PARENT & TODDLER PROGRAM CAN HELP THEM LEARN APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR IN A FUN SETTING.

Two to four-year-old children are naturally curious. They’re restless and eager to explore their surroundings – and to test boundaries and establish their identities. They might not be ready for the rigid structure of a traditional martial arts class, but they do need to start learning about appropriate behavior.

SENSEI RILEY
PARENT & TODDLER HEAD INSTRUCTOR

A Few Words

From SENSEI RILEY

I’m Sensei Riley, Head Toddler Instructor here at FUJI Martial Arts.

As a martial arts instructor with extensive experience training kids, there is nothing better than seeing them grow firsthand.

But more important than the martial arts skills they learn… is the personal skills they develop and carry for life.

Because martial arts is so much more than just kicking and punching, and getting the next colorful belt.

It’s about developing confidence, discipline, character, focus and respect.

With every class we teach, your kids are growing in mindbody and character.

That’s because martial arts provides instant positive feedback. Through learning to focus on the core moves, they develop discipline and respect. They can instantly see and feel a difference, making them destined to build confidence, self-awareness and self-respect.

And of course, it’s a ton of FUN!

That’s why I love teaching martial arts to kids in this community, and why I know your kids are going to LOVE training.

So please have a look below to find out exactly how your kids can benefit from our fun martial arts classes.

Thanks!

DOES YOUR 2-4 YEAR OLD

STRUGGLE WITH THESE THINGS?

They are shy and may have difficulty approaching other kids – or sharing in a play situation.

They don’t pay attention to their surroundings and may end up being unintentionally destructive as a result.

They lack control and can’t stay in one place long enough to eat a meal or watch a movie.

PARENTING CAN FEEL LIKE RUNNING A MARATHON

It’s exhausting, and it’s not uncommon for parents to feel frustrated as they try to get their young children to behave, sit still, and be aware of what’s going on around them. Getting them to participate in any group activity can be difficult at best, particularly when the activity doesn’t take their natural inclinations and developmental needs.

The key to helping kids at this age gain control is to teach them basic skills while entertaining them. With calm and steady guidance, they can learn to understand basic martial arts skills – and acceptable martial arts school behavior – and have fun, too!

YOUR CHILD WILL GROW WITH EVERY CLASS!

Parent & Toddler Judo at Pedro’s Judo Center gives young children the basic skills and discipline they need to succeed. While they learn simple martial arts moves such as falling, tumbling, throwing, crawling, and jumping, they also grasp valuable lessons about social conduct. Over time, Parent & Toddler students learn how to control their movements, follow directions, and interact with students and teachers.

MARTIAL ARTS BUILDS COORDINATION AND CONTROL

Students learn to be aware of themselves, others, and their surroundings, and to control their movements accordingly.

By learning basic martial arts moves, they build muscle coordination and become increasingly aware of spatial awareness.

FOCUS AND ATTENTION SKILLS

Kids learn how to pay attention to verbal commands when they are given, and to avoid tuning out when something seems complicated.

By learning how to focus and ignore distractions, kids learn how to follow verbal instructions – and to remember them without needing reminders.

MARTIAL ARTS TRAINING ENCOURAGES PERSEVERANCE

Kids learn how to manage anxiety and negative feelings, and not to give up when they are frustrated or upset.

Parent & Toddler Martial Arts includes training to help kids learn the value of persistence as they pursue achievable goals in a supportive setting.

RESPECT IS THE CORNERSTONE OF MARTIAL ARTS TRAINING

Parent & Toddler Judo classes underscore the importance of self-respect and respect for others in social and classroom settings.

In our martial arts school, kids learn that all classmates are to be treated with respect and be supportive and encouraging as their classmates pursue their goals.

FAQs

My child still has temper tantrums and I’m worried about how they’ll behave in school. Can studying martial arts help?

Yes, it can. We help children learn the importance of emotional control and respect for others. These are lessons that will help them in the classroom, too.

Will studying martial arts help my child learn how to interact with others and share?

Yes. Even though studying martial arts is an individual pursuit, we teach kids to learn in a collaborative environment with an emphasis on sharing, cooperation, and teamwork.

My child zones out in class and misses important instructions. Can taking martial arts classes help them do a better job of focusing?

Yes. Part of martial arts training is teaching kids to be mindful of themselves and their surroundings. They must focus to succeed in class, and once they learn to do it, they’ll be able to do the same thing at school.

My child is out of control physically, and can be very destructive. How will studying martial arts help?

Martial arts instruction focuses on hand-eye coordination, control, and strength. As kids learn basic moves and then advance, they learn how to control their bodies and movements.

My child gives up easily when frustrated. I want them to learn persistence. Can your classes help?

Yes. It’s common for students to require more than one attempt to earn a new belt. We teach them that trying is the most important thing – and that persistence pays off.

My child is disrespectful to me and to other caregivers. How can studying martial arts change that?

Respect is at the core of everything we do in the dojo. Kids who study martial arts must respect their instructors and fellow students, and we find that they learn to respect parents, teachers, caregivers, and siblings at the same time.

More Benefits

Kids learn how to listen respectfully to others without interruptions.

Our students learn the value of discipline as they pursue clearly-defined goals.

Martial arts instruction teaches kids how to accept defeat and learn from their mistakes.

Martial arts helps kids build core strength, balance, and physical coordination.
